Yellow belly! (#3 in a series)
This is, apparently, #3 in a series (see also #1 and #2). I think I like this one best. Usually, I see these guys perched on the line in the evening when I get home from work. So, I pull into my garage, get out of the car, take a shot or two, and then try to get closer in order to get a better shot. And, they fly away. I managed to get closer today by shooting from inside my car. As long as I was in the car, he (she?) just didn't care. For fun, after taking a couple of shots, I slowly got out of the car and he (she?) quickly flew over about 20 feet. Heh.
I don't know why these birds hang out on the power lines behind my house but they do. Those yellow bellies sure do catch my eye when I glance up. A couple of days ago I saw one madly chasing a yellow butterfly. That was a lot of yellow flashing in the sky!
UPDATE. Dad did some searching through one of his bird books and has decided (and I tend to agree with him after seeing a few photos) that this is very likely a Western Kingbird.
