#1 Tower - Jan. 7 - Take #3

I think I took this photo near 17th and West. Being artistic again.

Hmmm...the more I look at this photo, the less it appeals to me. Oh well. I went to the trouble of downsizing and cropping. May as well post...

#1 Tower - Jan. 7 - Take #2

I thought about how you can see the Capitol from the Main Mall south of the tower and wanted to get a shot of the tower from the steps of the Capitol. Guess what? You can't really see the tower from the steps of the Capitol. Well, you can. But there's only one spot where you can just see it between two State buildings:

So, I started thinking about the situation and realized that the fact is, you can only see the dome of the Capitol from the tower steps. You can't see the whole building. I asked one of the DPS troopers guarding the Capitol if there was a way to get out onto the walkway below the dome and was told there wasn't. I didn't walk up to see if that was the case. I probably should have. But, I was tired. I'd picked the wrong shoes that night and my feet weren't really up to the task of climbing the stairs just to see for myself. Maybe I'll do that the next time I've got visitors in from out of town who want to see the Capitol. Maybe.

Anyway, it's kind of an interesting shot.

#1 Tower - Jan. 7 - Take #1

On the second night I went out, I tried to get some unique perspectives on the tower. I took this photo from one of the State parking garages south of UT.

#1 Tower - Jan. 6 - Take #2

After going the "artistic" route by shooting with the LBJ fountain in the foreground, I went for a "typical" shot of the tower...also shot from near the LBJ fountain.

First #1 Tower Photo

This was about the 20th photo I took on January 6th. That's the LBJ fountain in the foreground. It's the first photo I liked of the many many photos I took.

More to come...

My New Photography Blog

I've been wanting to do this for a very long time. The 2005 National Football Championship finally forced my hand. I took a lot of photographs of the #1 Tower. A lot of photographs. They left the thing lit up for 10 days. How could I not take a lot of photographs? Once I'd taken 'em all, I didn't really know what to do with 'em. I could post the good ones ('cause you know, not all of 'em are good and many of 'em look just like each other) all at once to a page dedicated to those photos somewhere on my web site. But, that was gonna take too long. There are simply too many photos. So...then what? Well, there's my Photobox page. I hadn't updated it in years. Literally. (Hi, Kate!) Not since February 15, 1998. That's almost 8 years ago! It was ripe for a make over. So, here I am. New blog in hand. I will post many of my Tower photos here. I think there are at least 20 that are somewhat unique from each other and good enough to post. And, I will eventually get all of the old stuff moved over to this new format as well. Eventually.

And so...my new photography blog. I'll post the first #1 Tower photo shortly.
