Disch-Falk renovation photos, part 2

I went by Disch-Falk again on Thursday evening (Aug. 24th) and took more photos.

A couple of construction signs I didn't notice the first day:

They've started taking down the outfield fence and the netting behind home plate:

More dismantling of the press box:

The orange iron fencing around the base of the stadium is mostly gone:

More photos to come, no doubt.

Disch-Falk renovation photos

People have been asking about the renovations at Disch-Falk. I had no news. So, I finally went over there last Wednesday during my lunch hour and took a few photos.

They've taken down the fence along the lf line to provide access to heavy equipment:

[Wide shot from west parking lot]

Mysteriously, they've taken out one of the big trees:

[Missing tree]

I'm guessing that was cut down in the middle of the night, eh? It must've been too close to where the new facade will be. I suppose.

In this shot taken from beyond the lf fence, you can see that they've taken out all of the seats. All of 'em:

[No seats]

A close-up of the press box...being dismantled:

I'll try to go by every couple of weeks and check on the progress. I'll post more photos as warranted.

Carson Kainer update

Carson Kainer's surgery has been postponed for a week or two. His father had a viral infection last week and the doctors are concerned that the virus might have settled in the kidneys. So, they're taking a "better safe than sorry" approach and are postponing things a bit to make sure the virus is good and gone before they go ahead with the transplant.

New Volunteer Assistant Coach

What's old is new again.

The Statesman is reporting that Rob Penders is going to St. Edward's University as their new head coach. And, Greg Swindell is going to take over the Volunteer Assistant Coach position again. I wish all the best to Coach Penders and am looking forward to seeing Greg back out on the field at Disch-Falk.

Please note that none of this has been reported (as of this posting) on either of the schools' web pages. Kinda weird. I guess football is the reason it's not showing up on TexasSports.com, eh? Ah well.

Old(ish) news: Lemon not coming to UT

I missed this when it happened. Marcus Lemon signed with the Rangers in late July so he won't be coming to campus. According to the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers gave him a $1 million signing bonus which is pretty much unheard of for a player drafted in the 4th round. When he was first drafted and his family said they wanted $1M, I didn't think he'd get it (the FOURTH round?) and thought he might actually come to Texas. It seemed that the family would lower their demands or he'd come to UT. Apparently, he did get his deal. I wonder what sort of fallout the Rangers will get from the league for going against the grain so drastically. Things that make you go hmmmm...

Quick note

Sorry for the light posting of late. I went on vacation for the last few days of July. And, since my return I've been spending quite a bit of time playing with my photography blog.

Cape Cod League article

The Daily Texan ran a nice article about what Kyle Russell's been up to this summer: Longhorn living it up in Cape Cod by Ricky Treon.

Carson Kainer update

I got a note from Carson Kainer's mom saying that his kidney transplant has been scheduled for August 24th at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. As I mentioned before, his father will be the donor. Here's wishing good health and speedy recoveries to both of them!
