The Church That Was

On the drive out to Bastrop yesterday, I stopped to take some photos of that church on FM 969 a mile or two north of Highway 71:

I've been taking photos of that church for a few years now. I was surprised when I stopped yesterday to find the gate open; something I'd never seen before. Someone had actaully taken the time to mow the grass and weeds around the church. I'm guessing it was done within the last week or two. 'Makes me wonder if they're getting ready to go ahead and tear it down. About six months ago I heard that they used to have problems with people camping in the structure. I can't imagine anyone does that anymore...it just looks too dangerous. I did walk around the grounds a bit but decided not to try going into the building since I was alone.

Here's a shot I took in March of 2003 with my old camera:

Details: 1/500 sec at f/6.7, 100 ISO, 104mm focal length (35mm equiv.)

It's really going downhill, eh? It's always sad to see that sort of thing.

I do have to say, though, that I'm pleased with how much nicer the new photo looks. The colors are much more rich. Of course, the old picture was taken in March and the new one in August. So, that does make a difference. And, the new one was taken using the Camera Raw format so I had a lot more control over the exposure settings and all. Cool.
