Game 11: Arkansas at Texas (Houston College Classic)

Again, I listened to today's game on the radio and this report is based on that broadcast. Texas had another bad inning (the 5th) that proved its unraveling. Ricky Jacquez got his first start and loss of the year. He gave up 2 quick runs in the first and then settled down nicely before giving up a solo homerun in the 4th. Dillon Peters went in for the 5th and did not have a good outing which was not helped by a bad defensive decision. Sadly, this year's team seems to be very susceptible to falling into the trap of trying too hard. After falling behind by 5 in the 5th, the Horns did manage to get one run back but stranded 4 (3 in scoring position) in the final 5 innings of the game. In the 8th, they got the first two batters aboard on back-to-back singles but could not get a run across. They ended up losing 3-7 to Arkansas.

And, here's how things played out:

Sad day. Coach Garrido said in the post-game interview that it's hard to see but the team is getting better. He also commented that the players are still pressing too hard when things go wrong. But, he pointed out that they held their own for most of the game against a top-5 team. So...yeah.

Horns next play Dallas Baptist at 4 on Tuesday at Disch-Falk Field. Hook 'em!
