Game 44: Texas at Baylor
I had trouble getting the video stream to work so listened to most of the first two innings on the radio. Once I finally got video, I switched off the radio since it was about 30 seconds ahead of the video. It was the Baylor Bears stream so had Baylor announcers, who were not bad. Not Craig and Keith but not bad. Anyway...
Texas won 19-11 in a weird game. Read on.

- The video feed finally started to work for me at the bottom of the 2nd. No audio, though, forcing me to pay very close attention.
- Evatt struck out swinging.
- Booker drew a 7-pitch full-count walk.
- Hornung flew out to the lf/cf gap. Connor Rowe made a fantastic diving catch to rob Hornung of a hit.

- Belt drew a full-count walk.
- Keyes drew another full-count walk, moving Belt to 2b.
- Clark hit a long foul ball to lf. It was initially ruled a homerun but was then taken back off the board. Amazing. He then singled through the left side to load the bases. Coach Garrido did not argue the call but, surely, only because the Horns were so far ahead.
- Loy hit a sac fly to deep lf, scoring Belt. Keyes tagged on the play and moved to 3b.
- Rupp hit into a 6-4 fielder's choice.
- Texas up 14-2.

- Bias struck out swinging (on 7 pitches).

- Bias was hit by a full-count pitch to load the bases.
- Skip Johnson made a quick trip to the mound.
- Ware reached on an error by 2b. Tucker booted the ball a bit to his right and then had no play when he did round it up. Evatt scored on the play. Bases still loaded.
- Dickerson hit a bloop single into lf, scoring two, and putting runners at the corners. Moldenhauer, Kevin Lusson, and Loy were all within a foot or two of fielding the ball but it fell fair between them. Wow.
- Hansen flew out to shallow lf.
- I have to say I was a bit amused when one of the Baylor radio guys started talking about today's game being only the 14th "away" game for Texas. Or some such. People always knock on Texas for this sort of thing. But, the other guy quickly pointed out that the Bears had only been "away" for 15 games. Heh.
- 8th inning, Texas
- Loy drew a 4-pitch walk and then moved to 2b on a wild pitch with Rupp at the plate.

- Tucker hit a bloop single over 2b, scoring Maitland and moving Rowe to 2b.
- Kevin Lusson singled through the right side, scoring Rowe and moving Tucker to 3b. The right fielder decided to try and get Tucker at 3b and his throw hit the umpire on the leg. The ball ricocheted off the ump's leg into the air and then came down on the ump's head. Tee hee.
- Belt grounded out to the pitcher, scoring Tucker and moving Lusson to 2b.
- Kyle Lusson doubled to cf, scoring Kevin Lusson.
- Clark drew a full-count walk.
- Baylor sent Ross Speed (rhp) to the mound, replacing Blank.

- Texas up 19-5.
- 8th inning, Baylor
- Tim Maitland stayed in the game in lf. Texas sent Andrew McKirahan (lhp) to the mound, replacing Green.
- Miller grounded out (1-1 count) to 3b.
- A light rain started to fall (for the 2nd time of the evening).
- Evatt struck out looking.

- Hornung singled into the lf/cf gap.
- Kimmey drew a 5-pitch walk, moving Hornung to 2b.
- Bias drew a full-count walk to load the bases.
- Texas sent Stayton Thomas (rhp) to the mound, replacing McKirahan.
- Kenton Gedwed, pinch-hitting for Bias singled into rf, scoring Hornung, and keeping the bases loaded.
- Dickerson struck out swinging.
- Joey Hainsfurther, pinch-hitting for Hansen, doubled down the lf line, scoring Bias and Kimmey. Gedwed moved to 3b. That thing was just barely fair. Wow.
- Don Lambert, pinch-hitting for Miller, struck out looking.
- Evatt doubled to right-center, scoring Gedwed and Hainsfurther. Initially, it was ruled an error by cf (Rowe had to make a fairly long run but got to the ball and appeared to just miss it) but then changed to a double.
- Hileman singled on a ball that took a weird hop and bounced over ss into lf, scoring Evatt.
- Hornung struck out swinging to end the game.
- Note: Thomas struck out the side. Heh.
- Texas wins 19-11.
A weird game. Cole Green got the win to improve his record to 4-1. Aaron Miller took the loss for the Bears. 'Not sure what to think of the 7th and 9th innings for Baylor. Especially since the Horns threw five 3-up/3-down innings. Ah well. Connor Rowe had another great game at the plate, going 4-for-6 with 4 runs scored and 3 batted in. Travis Tucker's grand slam in the 2nd was a great shot in the arm for the Horns. The offense took advantage of most of their chances and only had one 3-up/3-down inning. Which was nice.
Ah well...here's the line (from GameTracker):

The teams are scheduled to face off against each other again tomorrow in Waco at 1:30. Weather permitting. It's supposed to rain quite a bit overnight and the outlook is not great for tomorrow. If they do play, Taylor Jungmann will get his first Big 12 start. Go, Taylor!
Hook 'em!
