UT released their 2008 schedule today. They say they're gonna start at Disch-Falk! I hope they do. Their first opponent will be the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth. I have a very soft spot in my heart for the Rams. They came to Austin for a regional quite a few years ago and just stole my heart. It's always fun when they come to town.
This is the first year that the new "uniform start date" is coming into play. That means the team won't be playing the maximum number of games this year. The limit is 56 games per year. There are currently 52 games on the schedule. They used two of the 56-game limit in October in those exhibition games against Baylor and Texas State. The games don't count in the win/loss percentages but do count against the number of games the team can play. Also of note: they will be playing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays several times during the course of the season. I suspect that'll probably provide some interesting challenges with respect to the pitching rotation.
As I went over the schedule, the saddest thing I noticed was that there will apparently be no Alumni game. Too bad. I hope they figure out a way to get the game in again next year but I'm not optimistic. Maybe they can work it into the fall schedule next year if they can't get it in before the start of the season in the spring. I always like seeing the "old" guys come back.
