CWS - Day 4
Dad called sometime in the middle of the afternoon to ask if I was following the game on GameTracker. Ummm...no. I'd forgotten about it. He gave me the score and I went back to work. I remembered to fire up GameTracker during the 7th inning or so.
Oregon State v. Georgia. When I first checked in, Oregon State was ahead 4-2 and their starter was still in the game. Georgia was on their 3rd pitcher of the day. I went back to work and checked back in to find the game in the bottom of the 9th. Both teams had scored single runs in the 8th Georgia was batting in the bottom of the 9th. They got a runner on with one out. Then, another. Go-ahead run at the plate. Then, nothing. And, again...nothing. So, I called Dad to find out what was going on. Go-ahead run at the plate he says. So, I go back to work and he calls a couple of minutes later to say the batter hit into a double play to end the game. GameTracker continued to note the go-ahead runner at the plate for quite some time. Then, I noticed that it said Game Over and had winning and losing pitcher information. But, still...no indication of what had happened to bring about the end of the game. Odd. Ah well. Oregon State won 5-3.
That means both teams from Georgia have been sent packing. And, the SEC now joins the Big 12 on the CWS sidelines. It's rather surreal.
Miami v. Rice. I didn't get home 'til about 8 o'clock and then I stopped to take photos of some birds in the alley behind my house before tuning into the game. I'd called Dad, though, so knew things were close. I tuned in just in time to see Miami pull within 1 in the 7th to take the score to 3-2. Miami was the home team and threatened in a big way in the bottom of the 9th. Miami had runners at the corners with one out but Bryce Cox managed to strikeout the last two batters to get the save. The Rice closer, Cole St. Clair, actually started the game and got the win. Final score: 3-2.
So, now Rice gets a day off and waits to meet the winner of tomorrow evening's elimination game between Miami and Oregon State. Again, I say: go Beavers!
