Left eye vs. right eye

An interesting discussion in the comments over at Rick Lee's place regarding using your left or right eye when taking photos.

I used to only use my right eye when shooting but noticed over the last year or so that I use both eyes now. I frequently will be shooting for several minutes and suddenly realize I've been using my left eye the entire time. I couldn't figure out why my life-long habit had changed. After thinking about it I came to two conclusions:

  1. I seem to have better (stronger?) vision in my left eye than in my right eye.
  2. Now that I have a larger camera body, my right cheek (and/or nose) aren't in the way when I use my left eye.

So, now that it's easier to use the left (and stronger) eye, I use the left eye! To test the hypothesis, I got my 2 "old" cameras out and, sure enough, it's just not easy to use my left eye with the old cameras (especially with my nearly-25-year-old 35mm SLR) but is very easy with my newer one. Which I've had for about a year. I guess that explains why I've only noticed the change in the last year or so.
