That's the lock on the gate at the pool. Talk about being frozen out!

Ice Storm 2007, Study #10
Details: 1/200 sec at f/3.5, 100 ISO, 200mm focal length (35mm equiv.)
This little guy (who stood about 14 or 16 inches tall) was just about the best that could be done with the snow that fell on the 16th.
UPDATE (Jan. 29, 2007). Entertainingly, here are the first two panels of today's Agnes comic strip:

The rear view mirror on a Suburban. This is one of the photos that makes me very glad my car was parked in the garage for the duration!

I think the branch on this tree had bent over with the weight of the ice and then this particular leaf pulled away from the ice that had frozen on it. Leaving behind an ice leaf. Cool.

'Love this patio cover! If it weren't for the ice, I don't know that I'd have much of an opinion one way or the other on the criss-cross lattice thing. But, with the ice dripping through? Wow.

Those look like drops of water, don't they? They're drops of ice, though! Cool, eh? I don't know why the ice formed little droplets on this plant...so very unlike all the others. Weird, eh? And, cool.

Magnolia tree leaves. Covered in ice. At least, I think they're leaves from a magnolia tree. It's no wonder branches droop and eventually break when they've got this much ice on 'em, eh?

Ice Storm 2007, Study #4
The ice was building up yesterday but it wasn't quite as impressive as it was today. See the bush in the first photo from yesterday's post? It had a thin layer of ice on the leaves and berries...but nothing like today:

Details: 1/125 sec at f/3.5, 100 ISO, 200mm focal length (35mm equiv.)
Take a close look at that second photo. It almost looks like the ice that was on those central leaves is free floating above them. Cool.
And, just to be clear, the berries in the second photo from yesterday's post are on a bush...a different bush...inside the patio area.

That's a close-up of the top of my fence. That white, nearly see-through, thing? A layer of ice. It's a little over 1/2-inch thick. Solid ice.

Ice storm photos on the way
I went out for a walk around my complex today. I was out for nearly 2 hours and took 125 (yikes!) photos. I'll be posting my favorites here in the next few days. And, no worries...you won't have to look at anything close to 125 photos. Yes, I'm talking to you, Katie.

Snow in Austin!
A winter storm hit the area this weekend. That usually means ice here in Austin. Today, though: snow! Mostly sleet and freezing rain. But, also: snow. There is lots of ice too, though. Never fear. And, so...
A shot of the back of my house. Lots and lots of icicles:

This is a bush in the patio...right under all those icicles hanging from the patio cover. Yikes!

My footprints in the snow (in the alley behind my house):

The lawn. And, some snow:

An attempt to capture the falling flakes (the white blurs are actual snow flakes...sigh...):
