Standing Guard

Another hummer from my NM trip:

[Hummingbird]
Details: 1/125 sec at f/7.1, 100 ISO, 200mm focal length (35mm equiv.)

One day while I was visiting my grandmother, one of the male Roufus hummers decided the sugar water was all his. And, he guarded it relentlessly. For hours. As soon as one of the other hummingbirds would approach, he'd scare it away. He'd actually dive bomb the other birds. At one point, there were about 6 others (including one other male Roufus) trying to feed at the same time. He went nuts trying to make sure none of them could get any of his water. His tireless efforts were awe-inspiring. The bird above may well be that Roufus. I can't say for sure, of course. This photo was taken on a different day. But, he looks ready to charge, doesn't he? Yeah. At the ready.
