Hay, you!

Another shot taken along FM 969 on the road to Bastrop a couple of weeks ago:

[Hay bales]
Details: 1/320 sec at f/8, 64 ISO, 45mm focal length (35mm equiv.)

I love those large rolled bales of hay. I didn't used to like 'em. 'Cause they meant nobody was stacking the rectangular bales in big mountains you could climb. I remember climbing bales of hay as a child. Does everyone do the round bales now? Are there places here in the States where people still make big hay mountains out of rectangular bales?

I have this memory that seems almost like a dream. It's from when we were living in Albuquerque. At least 35 years ago. We had a horse or two corralled in the back yard. And a mound of those hay bales. Can that possibly be how things really were? If so, the horse (or horses) must've belonged to my uncle Powder, right? Or my grandparents. And, the horse(s) couldn't have been with us for too terribly long. Mom? Dad? Is it a real memory? Or just a dream that seems real? Hmmmm...
