Game 21: Texas at Kansas State

Texas managed to pull off another extra-innings win today, beating Kansas State 6-4 in 11 innings. I was only able to listen to about an hour of today's game but it turned out to be the best part of the game...well, maybe the second-best part. I got to hear the Horns come from behind and tie things up. I did not get to hear the part where they won. Behind 0-3 going into the 6th, the Horns managed to scratch out a couple of runs. Jonathan Walsh reached on a 1-out wild-pitch strike out. (Always fun.) He stole second base and then Alex Silver was hit by a pitch. Jacob Felts doubled off the wall, scoring Walsh. Alas, Silver had to hold up to make sure the ball wasn't caught so only made it to 3b. Brooks Marlow then scored Silver on a ground out to 2b. The Horns, very sadly, gave up another run in the bottom of the 6th but rallied again in the 8th to tie things up...with the aid of another hit batter (Erich Weiss, who eventually scored on a balk), a really nice sac bunt by Silver, and an rbi-single by Marlow. It was at this point that I had to tune out.

With the game tied 4-4, Texas sent Knebel to the mound in the bottom of the 8th. According to the box score, Knebel went the distance. He threw 4 innings without giving up any hits or runs. He struck out 4 and walked 2 (one of them an intentional walk...the home half of the 10th was odd). He got the win.

So, how did Texas score those two runs in the 11th? A 2-out rally. With 2 out, Mark Payton, Taylor Stell, Erich Weiss, and Jonathan Walsh hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back singles! The Wildcats went 3-up/3-down in the bottom of the inning. So the series stands at 1-1.
