Games 5-7: Texas at Stanford

With Texas going on the road, I decided to take a few days off and head out to Los Angeles to visit friends. We did not take a road trip up to the Stanford games. And, after I saw how poorly the Horns played, I have to say I'm not sorry I missed hearing or seeing the games. Ugh. Stanford swept the Horns by scores of 7-2, 6-2, and 15-1. Yep. Really. The Horns are now on a 5-game losing streak. I can't imagine how long it's been since they lost 5 games back-to-back.

[Insert break to go find out.]

Huh. I didn't have to go back as far as I thought I would to find that last streak. It was late in 2001: 2 games at Baylor, a game at Rice, and 2 at Iowa State. The Horns were run-ruled in the two Baylor games (yikes!) while the last three losses were all close games. The Horns went on to end the season on a 4-1 run. They then lost 2 at the Big 12 tournament and went 2-2 at a regional at Stanford (of all places) where both losses were to the host team. Stanford made it all the way to the Championship Game (no Championship Series back then) at the CWS where they lost to Miami.

Some links:

They gave up 13 runs in one inning. Ouch. To the Nth degree. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. I sure hope they get things back on track this evening as they host Houston Baptist.
