2012 schedule posted
I got my version of the 2012 schedule posted. You can always check the sidebar on the main page for a quick link to it.
A few things that occured to me as I was setting it up:
- The Longhorn Network may very well be the worst thing to happen to local UT sports fans in the history of UT sports. The baseball evidence? The only afternoon home games all season are on getaway days with three exceptions (Dallas Baptist at 4 on March 6th, Oklahoma State at 3 on April 14th, and A&M at 3 on April 28th). That sucks. The attitude seems to be: "Who cares about the fans in the seats? We're more interested in the 10 at home that have access to the LHN." Bah.
- I'm very amused that the official schedule page shows a bazillion games being televised. I don't think it counts if nobody can actually watch those games. We've got ONE televised game this year. We had FOUR last year. Thank you, LHN.
- I'm not even a little bit amused that the Houston College Classic games will all be broadcast on ESPN3...except for the Texas games which will only be available on the LHN. The LHN sucks, people. What they're doing to the fans sucks.
- I keep forgetting that Dave Serrano is coaching Tennesee now. If you go to the Houston College Classic, you'll see him there.
- We only have 28 home games this year. We had 37 last year. Did we get a corresponding reduction in the price of our season tickets? Ha! I'm not happy with the Athletics office these days.
- I'm really upset about them moving the 4 home games against Cal to the Dell Diamond. We're getting 9 fewer home games this year without a reduction in ticket prices. But, we can go to the fun fun fun (!) Dell Diamond and shovel out an additional $30 per person to watch 4 games there. Bah. (Those games, by the way, will also be broadcast on the mythical LHN.)
Hook 'em, Horns. Yeah. Sorry. I just can't find it in me to get excited about baseball this year. I hope that changes. I hope being at the games cures me of this LHN malaise. (Yeah, good luck to me on that front as I'm forced to sit through longer-than-necessary breaks between innings to accomodate commercial breaks.) I've also been sick with an actual cold the past week or so which is not helping matters and I may very well miss Opening Day for the first time in...well...since I got my first season tickets in 1989. Pretty sure I've been to Opening Day every year since then. Sigh...
