Game 48: Texas at Nebraska
Happy Mother's Day! I came out to Bastrop to share the day with my mom. Listened to the KVET stream while Dad cooked a brisket on the grill. Yummm...
Alas, the Horns did pretty much everything they could to make the day go sour. The line:
| Team | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | R | H | E |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Texas | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 3 | 7 | 1 |
| Nebraska | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | - | 6 | 7 | 0 |
The line-ups:
| Texas | Nebraska | |
|---|---|---|
| Brandon Loy (ss) Mark Payton (rf) Tant Shepherd (1b) Erich Weiss (3b) Paul Montalbano (cf) Jonathan Walsh (lf) Jordan Etier (2b) Cohl Walla (dh) Jacob Felts (c) |
Kale Kiser (lf) Bryan Peters (2b) Cody Asche (3b) Kurt Farmer (1b) Kash Kalkowski (rf) Chad Christensen (ss) Josh Scheffert (dh) Patric Tolentino Khiry Cooper (cf) |

- Kalkowski hit a sac fly to the warning track in rf. Farmer scored and Kalkowski moved up to 3b.

That was a very disappointing loss...on many levels. In the post-game interview, Coach Garrido sounded as frustrated as I feel. He was very upset that the team seems to be satisfied winning 2-out-of-3 games and cannot seem to get their killer instinct in gear. He said they spoke about how important today's game was and they still went out and made mistakes on offense, gave up extra outs, and just did not execute. Sigh...
The Horns are off (they've got finals this week) until Saturday when Texas Southern comes to town for a double-header.
Also of note: Coach Garrido will be signing his new book at Book People on Tuesday evening.
