Game 28: Missouri at Texas
After two quick outs, the Horns jumped all over the Missouri starter for 5 runs in Sunday's game and went on to win 10-2. The line:

More adjustments for the Horns as Cohl Walla was, once again, out of the line-up. I have not heard any news on his condition. There is other news, though, that will likely have an impact soon and that is that Alex Silver has been cleared to play. He will likely move in at 3b when he starts and Erich Weiss will move out to lf. This team has a wealth of outfield defensive talent. I'm guessing hot bats will have more and more of an impact on who'll be starting in the outfield as the season progresses.
I wish I had time for a full-on play-by-play but I just don't. Gonna have to settle for highlights. The main highlight in my mind was Cole Green's play on the mound. Well, maybe it's the fact that the Horns managed to put 12 hits up on the board.
Hmmm...
What a quandary.
Cole Green had a really really nice outing. He threw the first 8 innings of the game to improve his record to 2-2. By my count, he threw 108 pitches (75 for strikes). He faced 31 batters, gave up 1 run (unearned), gave up 4 hits (1 single, 2 doubles, 1 triple), struck out 7, hit 2, and walked none. After giving up a 1-out triple in the 2nd, he struck the next two batters out. Sweet. The lone run he gave up was weird. In the 7th, with two out, he gave up a double to cf. Montalbano misjudged the ball off the bat and started back. He then realized it was more of a bloop and charged forward but just couldn't get to the ball. He made a diving attempt at it but missed the ball...allowing the batter to reach 2b. The next batter reached on a very rare fielding error by Loy at ss. Loy was moving to his right to field a ground ball and it nicked off his glove into lf. With two outs, the runner from 2b scored easily. Tough luck all around. Josh Urban went in for the 9th and struck out the side. He threw 14 pitches...11 for strikes. Pretty!
So...the 5-run first inning:
- Loy popped out to shallow rf.
- Payton flew out to lf.
- Weiss reached on a full-count walk.
- Kephart did the same!
- Shepherd had a glorious at-bat (ball, foul ball, foul ball, foul ball, ball, foul ball off his foot that knocked him down, foul ball, foul ball) and eventually singled up the middle, scoring Weiss and moving Kephart to 3b. Wow.
- Etier lined a single into lf, scoring Kephart and moving Shepherd to 2b.
- Felts homered off the lf foul pole!
- After a pitching change, Walsh lined a single to cf.
- With Montalbano at the plate, Walsh was caught stealing (2-6).
All that with 2 outs. Lovely.
Sorry I don't have time for more. But, if I don't get this posted, I'll never get it up. I appreciate you're patience, folks. Hook 'em!
