« Game 58: Rider at Texas (Austin Regional) | Main | Austin Regional Tournament, Day 2 »

Elsewhere, Day 1
Selected results from around the rest of the country that are of interest to me (if nobody else):
- Fort Worth Regional: Arizona beat Baylor 10-9. Baylor was down 10-4 going into the bottom of the 9th and scored 5 but just couldn't quite get there. TCU stomped all over Lamar, winning 16-3.
- Coral Gables Regional: Texas A&M beat Florida International 17-3 and will play Miami in the winner's bracket tomorrow. FIU's Garrett Wittels kept his hitting streak alive with a double in his 3rd plate appearance. He's now hit safely in 55 games.
- Fayetteville Regional: Kansas State lost to Washington State 6-8 and will face Grambling tomorrow in the loser's bracket.
- Norman Regional: Oral Roberts gave host Oklahoma a bit of a scare but the Sooners managed to win 7-6 in 10 innings. OU will face North Carolina in the winner's bracket tomorrow.
- As I type, 14 of the 16 #1 seeds won their games. UCLA is well on their way to a win over Kent State but, interestingly, Cal State Fullerton is trailing Minnesota 0-3 (the Bruins gave up a 3-spot in the 1st).
UPDATE: UCLA did win but CSF lost 1-3 so the #1 seeds went 15-1 on the day. - The #2/#3 match-ups came up even on the day with 8 #2 seeds winning their first game and 8 #3 seeds winning theirs. Hmmm...
The Big 12 did well today, going 4-1 . Gotta keep it up tomorrow and go 5-0. Seems like a good plan to me, at any rate.
UPDATE (Saturday). Sigh...my math skills apparently went AWOL last night. Big 12 went 3-2. Still rooting for 5-0 today!
