Game 27: Texas at Oklahoma
I managed to listen to the whole game this evening. And, I kept score with a pencil as I listened to the radio broadcast with Keith Moreland and Craig Way. First time this season I didn't use my new iPod toy (iScore) to score a game. It was fun. Wonder if I should switch back? Hmmm...probably not just yet.
After all the talk about looming bad weather, conditions turned out to be really nice.
And, here's how things played out...
- Texas, top of the 1st
- Bobby Shore on the mound for OU.
- Cohl Walla (lf) flew out to cf.
- Brandon Loy (ss) struck out swinging.
- Cameron Rupp (c) struck out swinging.
- OU, bottom of the 1st
- Cole Green on the mound for the Horns.
- Eric Ross (rf) grounded out to the pitcher.
- Casey Johnson (lf) grounded out to 2b.
- Garrett Buechele flew out to lf.
- Texas, top of the 2nd
- Russell Moldenhauer drew a 4-pitch walk and then advanced to 2b on a wild pitch with Kevin Keyes at the plate.
- Keyes struck out swinging (1-2 count).
- Tant Shepherd flew out to shallow cf.
- Kevin Lusson drew a 6-pitch walk.
- Connor Rowe doubled down the lf line, scoring Moldenhauer and Lusson.
- Jordan Etier grounded out to ss.
- Texas up 2-0.
- Little did I know I could've just stopped right here!
- OU, bottom of the 2nd
- Cameron Seitzer (1b) singled up the middle.
- Ross Hubbard (dh) struck out swinging (3 pitches).
- Cale Ellis (ss) reached on a 4-6 fielder's choice.
- Danny Black (2b) flew out to rf.
- Texas up 2-0.
- Texas, top of the 3rd
- Walla grounded out to ss.
- Loy grounded out to ss. The throw was high and he was called out on a sweep tag. Keith Moreland wasn't convinced that he was actually tagged before crossing the bag.
- Rupp flew out to cf at the warning track.
- Texas up 2-0.
- OU, bottom of the 3rd
- Bryan Groth (c) struck out swinging.
- Chris Ellison (cf) singled up the middle.
- Ross reached on a 1-6 fielder's choice...and was then caught stealing (2-4, I think) on ball 3 (taking the count full) to Johnson.
- Texas up 2-0.
- Texas, top of the 4th
- Moldenhauer reached on a 6-pitch walk.
- Keyes moved him to 2b on a sac bunt down the 1b line (3-unassisted).
- Shepherd drew an 8-pitch walk.
- Lusson flew out to cf. Moldenhauer tagged and moved up to 3b on the play.
- With Rowe at the plate, Shepherd stole 2b.
- Rowe was hit by a pitch (1-2 count with a couple of foul balls) to load the bases.
- Etier grounded out to 3b, leaving he bases loaded. So sad.
- Texas up 2-0.
- OU, bottom of the 4th
- Johnson grounded out to 1b (3-1, p covered bag).
- Buechele grounded out to 3b. Lusson made a great play to charge the ball and throw the batter out.
- Seitzer drew a 6-pitch walk.
- Drew Harrison (pinch-hitting in the dh spot) struck out swinging (3 pitches).
- Texas up 2-0.
- Texas, top of the 5th
- Walla flew out to cf.
- Loy grounded out to 1b (unassisted).
- Rupp struck out looking (1-2 count).
- Texas up 2-0.
- OU, bottom of the 5th
- Caleb Bushyhead (pinch-hitting for Ellis) flew out to cf.
- Black flew out to shallow cf.
- Tyler Ogle (pinch-hitting for Groth) grounded out to ss. A great play and then better scoop by Loy and Shepherd to make the out.
- Texas up 2-0.
- Texas, top of the 6th
- OU kept Bushyhead in the game at ss and Ogle in at c.
- Moldenhauer grounded out to the catcher...a ball that barely got off the plate.
- Keyes had a 9-pitch at-bat and ended up flying out to rf. Pitch sequence: foul, foul, foul, ball, foul, foul, ball, ball, fly out. Wow.
- Shepherd doubled down the lf line and then stole 3b on the 2nd pitch to Lusson.
- Lusson struck out swinging (2-2 count).
- Texas up 2-0.
- OU, bottom of the 6th
- Ellison grounded out to the pitcher.
- Ross grounded out to 3b.
- Johnson struck out swinging.
- Texas up 2-0.
- Texas, top of the 7th
- Rowe singled up the middle past the ss.
- Etier was unsuccessful in getting a bunt down and ended up striking out swinging (1-2 count).
- Rowe tried to steal 2b on the first pitch to Walla. Alas the pitch was a high fast ball and he was caught (2-4) for the 2nd out.
- Walla fouled off a couple of pitches and then struck out swinging (2-2 count).
- Texas up 2-0.
- OU, bottom of the 7th
- Buechele singled the first pitch he saw into rf.
- After Green served up 2 balls to Seitzer, Skip Johnson made a visit to the mound.
- Seitzer reached on a fielder's choice/error on a ground ball to 1b. Shepherd fielded the grounder and threw to ss. Loy took his eye off the ball and missed the throw (E6). Runners at 1b and 2b, no outs.
- Elliott Blair (pinch-hitting for Harrison) failed to get a bunt down and ended up striking out (swinging, 1-2 count). That's three strike outs for three different designated hitters.
- Bushyhead flew out to cf. The runners did not attempt to advance.
- Texas sent Kyle Lusson into rf at this point, replacing Keyes.
- Black grounded out to 1b. Shepherd blocked the ball, bobbled it, but stayed with it and tossed to Green covering the bag to make the out!
- Texas up 2-0.
- Texas, top of the 8th
- OU sent Jeremy Erben to the mound, replacing Shore.
- Loy struck out swinging (1-2 count).
- Rupp struck out swinging (ball, swing, ball, ball, swing, swing).
- Wow. That makes 0-for-12 for the top third of the Texas lineup today. Wow.
- Moldenhauer popped out to ss.
- Texas up 2-0.
- OU, bottom of the 8th
- Ogle flew out to rf near the line.
- Ellison struck out swinging.
- 6th strike out of the night for Green.
- Ross walked on four pitches.
- Texas sent Chance Ruffin to the mound, replacing Green.
- Johnson popped out to 2b.
- Texas up 2-0.
- Texas, top of the 9th
- Kyle Lusson struck out swinging (2-2 count).
- Shepherd tried to bunt for a single but he got the ball too close to the mound and grounded out 1-3.
- Kevin Lusson popped out to ss.
- Texas up 2-0.
- OU, bottom of the 9th
- Buechele grounded out to 2b.
- Seitzer struck out swinging.
- Max White (pinch-hitting for Blair, 4th dh of the game) grounded out to ss to end the game!
- Texas wins 2-0. Another shut-out. Wow.
Green gets his 6th win of the year and Ruffin gets his 7th save. Fantastic.
It's amazing the Texas has shut OU out in the last 2 games. Interestingly, the Sooners were also shut out by Nebraska on Sunday and then beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 26-3 and 16-1 on Tuesday and Wednesday. 'So glad Jungmann and Green have been able to shut those bats down!

Not the most exciting line, eh? Texas bats back in action tomorrow? Sure hope so. The Horns will go for their first 3-game sweep of the Sooners in Norman (at least, that's how the record looks to me...the Horns have swept a couple of 2-game series in Norman but no 3-game series) tomorrow at 2.
