Alumni note: Drew Stubbs called up

Drew Stubbs was called up by the Reds on Wednesday...marking his Major League debut. He got his first hit that night (a double down the rf line). On Thursday? Walk-off homerun to win the game. Heh. How 'bout that? He made a nice leaping catch in Friday's game in Pittsburgh. 'Caught the ball just as it was headed over the fence:

'Grabbed the screen cap off the video attached to this story about his adjustment to the Majors. The article talks about his defensive skills. Whenever I think of Drew and defense, I remember that play against Baylor that left Reid Brees standing in stunned disbelief as he turned into the second out of a double play on a ball to shallow cf that no-way no-how should've been caught. But, Drew caught it. Brees, who'd been at 2b when the ball was hit was already well around 3b and headed home when Drew made a diving catch and then tossed the ball to 2b for an easy double play. That memory always makes me smile.
