Game 46: Texas Southern at Texas

Texas beat Texas Southern this evening 7-3. Stayton Thomas got his first start of the year (actually, I think it's his first start as a Longhorn) and earned the win to improve his record to 3-0. Cool, eh? Thomas went 5+ innings and did give up the 3 earned runs...all in the 6th, though. Through the first 5, he held the Tigers scoreless on 3 singles with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk. He did give up back-to-back-to-back-to-back (yes, really) hits to start off the 6th. Three of those runners scored (1 on a balk...1 of 3 called in the game). After the 4th single (hard-luck infield single to the pitcher!) the Horns sent Kendall Carillo to the mound. Carillo picked off a runner and induced two groundouts to end the 6th. He also pitched the 7th and 8th. So, he threw 3 scoreless innings, faced 9, and gave up 1 single while striking out 2. Austin Dicharry threw a 1-2-3 ninth (with 1 strikeout) to end the game.

Here's how things played out:

The Horns seemed a wee bit flat offensively after their explosion this weekend. But, for the most part, they took ready advantage of the opportunities they were given.

Here's the line (from GameTracker):

[Final line score]

Texas heads to College Station for a 6:30 game on Friday. Then it's a quick turnaround back to Austin to host the Aggies at noon on Saturday (watch the game on FSN if you can't make it to Disck-Falk). They close out the series at 2 on Sunday. That game will also be on the air...on something called Fox College Sports.

Hook 'em!
