Big 12 Tournament - Day 2 summary
Texas jumped out to a big lead, got a bit of a scare, and went on to beat the Aggies 15-9 late this afternoon.
And, then...much later...Oklahoma came from behind in the bottom of the 9th to beat Missouri. Oh. My. Goodness. It was very exciting. The Tigers scored single runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th. The Sooners scored single runs in the 2nd and 5th. In the 9th, the Tigers went down in order. With Kyle Gibson on the mound for the Tigers, the bottom of the 9th went like so:
- Baker singled through the right side.
- The Sooners sent Buser to pinch-run for him.
- Hernandez hit a sac bunt down the 1b line, moving Buser to 2b.
- Selby reached on an error by 2b, moving Buser to 3b. It looked like a relatively routine ground ball that the second baseman just could not field.
- Runners at the corners. One out.
- Johnson hit a double off the wall in the cf/rf corner. Buser scored easily and Selby hoofed it around the bases to beat a pretty good throw in from cf.
- Game over.
What an end to the game. The Tigers committed 4 errors on the day.
The Horns are still alive! If Texas beats OU (!) and A&M beats Mizzou (!) the Horns advance. Texas has to win, though. And, Mizzou has to lose. If Texas loses, OU advances...'cause they'll be 3-0. If Texas wins and Mizzou wins, the Tigers advance. 'Must thank the Sooners for keeping our hopes alive. Wow.
