It's official
Okay. It's official. Texas will host a Regional. The 16 host sites have been named. The seedings will be announced tomorrow in a live show on ESPN at 11:30 (Central time). Here's a list of host schools:
| School | Record (as of May 26) |
RPI (as of May 21) |
Number of Times Selected to Host |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arizona State | 43-13 | 5 | 17 |
| Arkansas | 41-18 | 18 | 4 |
| Coastal Carolina | 48-11 | 7 | 1 |
| Florida State | 47-11 | 6 | 26 |
| Long Beach State | 36-18 | 9 | 3 |
| Missouri | 40-16 | 15 | 1 |
| North Carolina | 47-12 | 4 | 3 |
| Ole Miss | 37-23 | 14 | 4 |
| Rice | 48-12 | 1 | 6 |
| San Diego | 42-16 | 11 | 1 |
| South Carolina | 42-18 | 10 | 11 |
| Texas | 44-15 | 3 | 23 |
| Texas A&M | 43-16 | 8 | 6 |
| Vanderbilt | 50-11 | 2 | 1 |
| Virginia | 43-14 | 12 | 3 |
| Wichita State | 49-19 | 21 | 10 |
Reviewing the RPI list, it looks like Arkansas and Wichita State jumped ahead of a few teams with higher RPI numbers but fewer wins: Louisiana-Lafayette (40-14, RPI 13), Miami (35-20, RPI 16), North Carolina State (36-19, RPI 17), Clemson (36-20, RPI 19), and Southern Mississippi (37-19, RPI 20).
And, just in case you've been stuck in a cave: Texas will host but the games will be played at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Assuming Texas wins the Regional and that they're a top-8 National Seed (which seems extremely likely, but we'll know for sure by noon tomorrow), Texas will host their Super Regional at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. The Dell Diamond plays home to the Round Rock Express (Astros' AAA affiliate) and Whataburger Field plays home to the Corpus Christi Hooks (Astros' AA affiliate).
