Running the stop sign

It's official. Drew Stubbs' did run past Tommy Harmon's stop sign in last night's game:

The truly funny thing about Tommy Harmon putting up the stop sign when Drew Stubbs (arguably one of the fastest players who's ever played for the Horns) is rounding third base is the contrast to when some poor hapless slow guy is in the same situation. Tommy Harmon cranks that right arm of his like there's no tomorrow and everyone knows, as the slow guy (Jeff Ontiveros comes screaming to mind, for some odd reason!) goes lumbering past the third base bag, that the guy's running dead. Yeah, I've heard the argument: the slow guy's best chance at scoring (especially if there's already an out in the inning) is to jar the ball loose in a collision at home or hope the throw's offline; with a fast guy standing at third, there are all kinds of ways to get him home. I'm not sure I buy that. I do know that I always feel sorry for the slow guy running from first base when the guy behind him hits a double and Tommy Harmon's coaching third.

Anyway, go Drew! Go Horns! Keep on beatin' the Owls! Hook 'em!
