The Horns played a much better game today. Sam Houston State tried to mount a rally in the 9th but it proved too little too late. Weaver pitched a nice game...he seems to be settling down a bit more each time he appears in a game. There were lots of hit-batsmen in the game, though: 3 by SHSU starter Albright and two apiece by Weaver and French. The homerun by Haynes came about because Lee fell and twisted his knee as he tried to rundown a ball Haynes hit to the rf corner. Lee was unable to get back to his feet and had to be wheeled off the field.

1st inning
- SHSU:
  - Prihoda was hit by a pitch...the ball appeared to graze his shirt.
  - Tanner singled to rf. Prihoda moved to 2b.
  - Thames hit a perfect sacrifice bunt toward the mound. Prihoda moved to 3b. Tanner moved to 2b.
  - Hurta hit a high fly ball to lf. Harkrider and Walsh both lost the ball in the sun and it ended up bouncing over Walsh's head. Hurta was awarded a double. Prihoda and Tanner scored.
  - Bubela hit a sacrfice fly to cf. Hurta moved to 3b.
  - Gaffney grounded out to ss.
- Texas:
  - Harkrider grounded out to 3b.
  - Gutierrez flew out to lf -- a very nice catch by Tanner.
  - Walsh doubled to the rf corner.
  - Johnson went down swinging.
2nd inning
- SHSU:
  - Eddlemon went down swinging.
  - Haynes grounded out to 1b.
  - Beltran grounded out to ss.
- Texas:
  - Simpson doubled down the lf line.

3rd inning

  - Prihoda doubled to lf and then moved to 3b on a wild pitch.
  - Tanner grounded out to ss. Prihoda scored.
  - Thames grounded out to 2b.
  - Hurta singled up the middle.
  - Bubela flew out to lf.
- Texas:
  - Harkrider singled to rf. The right fielder bobbled the ball, though, and Harkrider reached 2b on the error (E9).
  - Gutierrez grounded out to 1b. Harkrider moved to 3b.
  - Walsh singled up the middle. Harkrider scored.
  - During Johnson's at-bat, Walsh stole 2b.
  - Johnson was called out on strikes.
  - During Simpson's at-bat, Walsh was picked off on a nice throw from Albright to Eddlemon (1-4).
4th inning
- SHSU:
  - Gaffney singled to lf. Walsh did a great job running the ball down in the lf/cf gap to keep Walsh from getting extra bases.
  - During Eddlemon's at-bat, Gaffney was caught stealing -- a great throw from Spiker to Harkrider covering 2b.
  - Eddlemon popped up to 1b in foul territory.
  - Haynes grounded out to 2b.

  - Simpson flew out to lf.

  - Harkrider hit a great sacrifice bunt (2-3) down the 3b line. Cridland moved to 2b.
  - Gutierrez doubled to shallow lf -- the ball fell between the fielders. Cridland scored.
  - Walsh grounded out to ss.
  - Johnson was intentionally walked after DeBruin fell behind in the count (2-0).
  - SHSU sent Harriad in to pitch.
  - Simpson went down swinging.
8th inning
- SHSU:
  - Thames grounded out to 2b.
  - Hurta reached on an error by Rumfield (E5).
  - Bubela grounded out to 1b. Hurta moved to 2b.
  - Texas sent French in to pitch.
  - Gaffney was hit by a full-count pitch.
  - Crosby (pinch-hitting for Ozuna) flew out to lf.

  - SHSU sent Hopkins in at 3b and moved Gaffney to 2b.
  - Rumfield singled to cf.
  - During Loeffler's at-bat, he squared to bunt. Rumfield broke for 2b. Gaffney (2b) moved to 1b to cover the bunt and Beltran (ss) was late covering 2b. The throw from the catcher almost got through to cf as Rumfield was safe with a stolen base.
  - Loeffler walked.
  - SHSU sent Siradakis in to pitch after Harriad's first pitch to Spiker was called a ball.
  - Spiker then walked on 4 pitches. Rumfield moved to 3b. Loeffler moved to 2b.
  - SHSU sent Taylor in to pitch. [Editorial aside: Siradakis threw a pretty big fit as he went back to the dug-out...throwing his glove violently onto the bench and kicking a cooler around. Not pretty. I really hate to see that sort of behavior on the field. Sigh...]
  - Carter (pinch-hitting for Cridland) singled to lf. Rumfield and Loeffler scored. Spiker moved to 2b.
  - Harkrider popped up to the catcher.
  - Gutierrez went down swinging. On the third strike, Spiker broke for 3b and was called out (caught stealing 2-5). A bad call in my opinion...the third baseman did not even attempt to tag Spiker out. Spiker slid into the bag and Hopkins basically fell back on Spiker. No tag. Oh well...3rd out.
9th inning
- SHSU:
  - Texas sent Lee in at rf.
  - Haynes hit what would probably have been a double to the rf corner. Lee fell, however, and twisted his knee severly as he tried to catch up to the ball. He couldn't get back up and Haynes scored (in-the-park homerun) by the time Gutierrez was able to run down the ball in rf. Lee had to be wheeled off the field and Edelstein replaced him in rf.
  - Beltran was hit by a 2-2 pitch.
  - Prihoda singled to lf. Beltran moved to 2b.
  - Both runners advanced on a passed ball during Tanner's at-bat.
  - Tanner grounded out to ss. Beltran scored. Prihoda moved to 3b.
  - Thames grounded out to 3b. Prihoda scored.
  - Hurta grounded out to 2b.
