Game 51: Texas at Texas A&M
I got home just in time to tune into tonight's game via the Aggies' free Internet video stream (thanks, Aggies!) and boy...was I frustrated. The Horns managed to get two runners picked off and a third tagged out on a hidden-ball trick in the first few innings. Ack! But, somehow, they managed to overcome that bit of madness and went on to win 4-2. The line:

Play by play:
- 1st inning, Texas
- John Stilson (rhp) on the mound for TAMU.
- Loy grounded out to 3b.
- Payton popped out to ss in shallow lf.
- Shepherd flew out (very hiiiiigh fly ball) to cf.
- 1st inning, TAMU
- Taylor Jungmann (rhp) on the mound for Texas.
- Naquin grounded out to 2b (1st pitch).
- Bratsen grounded out to ss. Nice job of fielding the ball on a short hop by Loy.
- Juengel lined a single into rf.
- House struck out swinging.
- 9 pitches (8 for strikes).
- 2nd inning, Texas
- Weiss drew a full-count walk.
- Montalbano tried to bunt Weiss to 2b but hit the ball a bit too hard into a 1-6 fielder's choice. Damn. He just beat the relay throw from 2b.
- After a couple of pitches to Walsh, Montalbano was picked off as he lost his footing heading back to 1b. Ugh.
- Walsh ended up reaching on a 5-pitch walk.
- Insert mound visit by Coach Childress after the first pitch to Etier (a low ball thrown way outside).
- Etier reached on a full-count walk, moving Walsh to 2b.
- With Walla at the plate, Etier was picked off by the catcher (2-3).
- Argggghhhhhh...miserable, miserable, miserable.
- 2nd inning, TAMU
- Alcazar struck out swinging.
- Gonzalez flew out to cf (1st pitch).
- Wood was hit on the arm by a full-count pitch.
- Jackson grounded out to 2b.
- 14 pitches (7 for strikes).
- 3rd inning, Texas
- Stilson stumbled and fell on his 2nd pitch to Walla and then seemed to be in a bit of pain...in his left ankle. He took a practice throw and stayed in the game.

- Bratsen struck out swinging.
- Juengel singled into lf, scoring Collazo. Juengel tried to move up to 2b on the throw but Texas cut the ball off and tagged him out (7-5, mysteriously enough...hard to believe nobody else was involved in the run-down).

- Texas down 0-1.
- 4th inning, Texas
- Montalbano singled up the middle.
- Walsh moved Montalbano to 2b on a 3-4 sac bunt.

- 5th inning, Texas
- Loy reached on an infield single to 3b. The third baseman knocked the ball down and threw to 1b but it was wide.
- Payton bunted into another 1-6 fielder's choice. Oy.
- With Shepherd at the plate, Payton moved to 2b on a wild pitch.
- Shepherd flew out to rf (foul). Payton tagged up and moved to 3b on the play. And, then he was tagged out by the third baseman on a hidden ball trick play. The throw in from rf went to 3b and then Payton did not notice that the third baseman held onto the ball. Ugh. They are killing me.
- Texas down 0-1.
- 5th inning, TAMU
- Jackson struck out looking.
- Collazo drew a 4-pitch walk.
- With Naquin at the plate, Collazo stole 2b.

- Bratsen singled on a slow roller through the right side, moving Naquin to 2b (hit and run).

- With Payton at the plate, a wild pitch scored Etier and moved Walla to 3b and Loy to 2b.
- Payton went on to draw a 5-pitch walk to re-load the bases.
- A&M sent Kyle Martin (rhp) to the mound, replacing Stilson (who left with 108 pitches by my count).
- Shepherd reached on an error by 3b (who failed to field a ground ball). Walla and Loy scored on the play. Payton moved to 2b.
- Weiss singled into lf. Payton was thrown out at the plate (7-2). Shepherd moved up to 3b and Weiss to 2b on the throw home.
- Montalbano grounded out to 3b.
- Texas up 3-2. Whew.
- 7th inning, TAMU
- Jackson drew a 5-pitch walk.
- Collazo tried to bunt Jackson over to 2b. Jungmann fielded and threw to Loy covering 2b. The throw was high but Jackson slid just off the bag and Loy got the tag down before Jackson got his foot back onto the bag. Double whew. Collazo safe at 1b on the fielder's choice.

- 9th inning, Texas
- Felts grounded out to ss.
- Loy doubled into right-center. Nice.
- Loy stole 3b on the first pitch (a ball) to Payton.
- Payton reached on an infield single to 2b, scoring Loy. The infield was pulled in and both 1b and 2b went after the ball. Nobody was at 1b to cover. Wow. Role reversal from earlier in the game. Aggies now playing poorly instead of Longhorns.
- Texas sent Tim Maitland in to pinch-run for Payton.
- Shepherd grounded out to 3b, moving Maitland to 2b.
- Brandon Parrent (lhp) went to the mound, replacing Martin.
- Maitland moved up to 3b on a wild pitch...the first pitch to Weiss.

- 9th inning, TAMU
- Maitland stayed in the game in lf. Montalbano moved to rf.
- Gonzalez flew out to lf (in left-center).
- Jace Statum (pinch-hitting for Wood) struck out swinging. Purty.
- Jackson also struck out swinging. Wow.
- Texas wins 4-2.
What a game. The Horns looked so very flat. But, they came back in the 7th and did what they needed to do to win. Wow. By my count, Taylor Jungmann threw 120 pitches for a complete-game win to move his record to 12-0 on the year. I love watching him pitch. Oh, and he also struck out 12. Really nice effort by Jungmann.
The final two games of the series will be played here in Austin. Both will be on TV. Check your local listings.
