MLB Draft note
The MLB Draft got underway this evening. They got through the first 3 rounds before calling it a day. So far, the only draft pick that'll likely have a direct impact on the Horns is center fielder Everett Williams out of McCallum HS (here in Austin). He's a Texas signee. He was drafted in the 2nd round (52nd overall) so I'm guessing he will not be on campus next year. As usual, I'll be keeping track of things on my own draft summary page. I'll update as often as I can. There's a handy link in the sidebar on the main page if you lose track of this post.
Also of note, through the first 3 rounds:
- Tony Sanchez (the BC catcher we saw at the Regional) was drafted 4th overall. Wow.
- Aaron Crow (rhp, previously of Missouri) and Kyle Gibson (rhp, currently of Missouri) were also drafted in the first round.
- Aaron Miller (lhp, Baylor), Garrett Richards (rhp, OU), and Mike Belfiore (lhp, BC...remember him from the 25 inning game?) were drafted in the supplemental round between the 1st and 2nd rounds.
- And, Alex Wilson (rhp, TAMU) was drafted in the 2nd round.
- Josh Prince (who played for Texas in 2007 and then transferred to Tulane) was drafted in the 3rd round.
This is the first time in a long time that Rice didn't have someone selected in the first 3 rounds.
