Elsewhere, Day 1
Notes of interest (to me at any rate) in a few regionals elsewhere around the country:
- Fort Worth Regional: TCU beat Wright state 6-3. Oregon State beat Texas A&M 9-8. I was told during the game that the Aggies were leading 7-0 and went on to lose. Not so. The Beavers were the team with a 7-run lead that they nearly squandered.
- Clemson Regional: Oklahoma State (with much to prove) beat Alabama 10-6. The Cowboys scored 8 runs in the first three innings of the game.
- Chapel Hill Regional: Kansas lost 3-11 to Coastal Carolina. The Jayhawks fell behind early and only managed to score single runs in the 3rd, 5th, and 8th.
- Norman Regional: The Sooners fell behind Wichita State 1-4 in the 3rd but scored 1 in the 4th and 3 in the 6th to win 5-4.
- Oxford Regional: Missouri lost their opener 5-11 to Western Kentucky. The Tigers gave up a 6-spot in the 1st and it proved too much to overcome.
- Houston Regional: Kansas State took advantage of an 8-run 3rd to go on and beat Xavier 16-8 while Rice beat Sam Houston State 5-2.
- Baton Rouge Regional: Baylor (another team with much to prove) blanked Minnesota 5-0.
So, that gives the Big 12 five wins and three losses on the day.
