Austin Regional, Day 1

In the first game of the day, Texas State seemed to be headed for the winner's bracket when their pitching fell apart. With a 5-2 lead, the Bobcats gave up 6 runs in the top of the 9th. They'd only given up 6 hits going into the final inning. They gave up 8 in the 9th. Boston College sent 11 men to the plate in the final frame. The Bobcats tried to make it up in the bottom of the inning and came close as Paul Goldschmidt hit his 18th homerun (and drove in his 87th and 88th runs...or thereabouts...of the year) to get back to within 1 run. But that proved to be it. The line:

Here's BC celebrating the 3-run homerun by John Spatola that gave them the lead:

And, here are the Bobcats after Goldschmidt's 2-run homerun later in the inning:

Look at those old-school uniforms. I like 'em!

In the second game of the day, Army put up a good fight. But, Cole Green proved too much for 'em in more ways than one. The Horns won 3-1. The line:

[Final line score]

That means Texas State and Army face off at noon tomorrow in an elimination game. Texas and Boston College will play each other at 6:00.

I'll be back shortly with a full game report on the Texas game.
