Game 10: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Texas

Sorry I didn't post about the game yesterday. I simply forgot to do it when I got home. Oops.

I was not in my office for much of the afternoon so missed most of the game. I heard a few things here and there but even when I was in my office, I had to concentrate too much on what I was doing to really get many of the details. I had the Live Stats page open so got caught up from time to time on what was going on. I have to say that, for the most part, it was just ugly. Texas won 22-3. Ouch.

I did hear Kawika Emsley-Pai get his first hit of the year (along with his first start). And, Brandon Workman got the start. Looking at the boxscore, I see that Keith Shinaberry, Kyle Walker (awarded his first win of the year), Stayton Thomas, Marcus Tackett, and Brandon Belt (!) also saw a bit of action on the mound. Four Longhorns scored 4 runs: Travis Tucker, Michael Torres, Jordan Danks, and Kawika. Brandon Belt knocked in 8 of the runs on 4 hits (including 2 doubles) and then threw a 1-2-3 inning to end the game.

While it's nice to see the Horns putting up such big numbers, I hope it keeps up when we play Stanford this weekend. The Islanders walked 17 batters and I don't think we can count on that sort of thing very often. We saw how the team responded to the loss to Rice with the victory over Houston the next day. It'll be interesting to see how things go against Stanford after two very easy wins.

By the way, Preston Clark was not in the line-up again. There's a quick note in the Statesman's story about Tuesday's game saying that Preston "saw a doctor in Dallas on Tuesday for his injured shoulder and will start throwing again this weekend." Now you know as much as I do about that situation. (Thanks to Dad for the pointer to the article.)
