Team speed
The speed of the Texas players really seems to be making a difference on the basepads this season. They regularly stretch hits that I expect to be singles or doubles into doubles and triples. It's pretty amazing to watch. When it happens, I cringe and wait for the runner to be thrown out. But, they keep surprising me. And, clearly, they're surprising the fielders on oposing teams. And, truth be told, I'm actually starting to get used to it. I noticed today that Esther, who hasn't seen as many games as I have, was cringing a lot more than I was when one of the Texas batters would make that turn around a base and keep running. Instead, I was assuming they'd make it. They've hit 72 doubles and 13 triples so far this year. Through 29 games. Last year they played 62 games and hit 117 doubles and 24 triples. So, they look like they're on pace to hit 3 more triples (over the course of another 62-game season). As for doubles, they're on pace to hit 154! And, that's assuming they only play 62 games. Getting all those extra runners into scoring position can't be a bad thing, right?
Hopefully, I'm not jinxing anything here when I say I think these guys will play more than 62 games this year. If they keep playing the way they're playing now, they're pretty much bound to play more than 62.
