Game 11: Stanford at Texas

I missed the first half of the game yesterday. The game wasn't on the radio so I wasn't sure what was happening. My dad called from the stands after the 4th (I was already on my way) to say the Horns were losing 1-5. As I got out of my car in the Dell Diamond parking lot, I heard the crowd roar. That seemed promising. Turns out, Jordan Danks had hit a double. I walked into the park just in time to see Preston Clark hit a 2-run home run in the 5th to take the Horns within 2. I found my folks and settled in. Texas scored another 2 in the 6th to tie things up. This time on a Jordan Danks 2-run home run. Stanford scored 1 in the 8th which Texas matched in the bottom half of the inning. Stanford managed to score 4 in the top of the 9th. Groannnnnn. But, hey! Brett Lewis hit a double to start off the bottom of the 9th and Chance Wheeless homered! Then, Jeff Boes (pinch hitting) reached on an error as the third baseman had a tough time fielding the ball. Nick Peoples singled to rf. Runners at 1b and 3b with no outs! Winning run at the plate. Alas, Jordan lined out to 1b. The first baseman lunged at the ball and fell on first base after making the catch for a double play. What sort of bad luck is that? He fell on the bag. Nick had no chance to get back to 1b. So, suddenly, Texas had a runner at 3b with two outs and the tying run at the plate. And, then Preston struck out. So sad. 'Wish I had better news for you. I do have to say that it was great watching the team battle away. It was a good game. A very tough loss. But, a good game. And, so...
