Not the Austin Regional - Day 1
So. A few comments about what's going on elsewhere in tournament play:
- Corvalis (host: Oregon State). Top seeds won. Yep...that means Kansas put one in the win column for the Big 12.
- Fayetteville (host: Arkansas). Arkansas lost. Oklahoma State won (another one for the Big 12).
- Houston (host: Rice). Prairie View gave Rice a big scare (reminding them, no doubt, of their loss to the 4th seeded Southern a couple of years ago that eventually led to them failing to advance to the Super Regional) but they came back to tie the game up in the 8th and win it in the 9th. The Baylor/Arizona State game is suspended (0-0 in the 2nd) 'til Saturday afternoon.
- Lincoln (host: Nebraska). The top seeds lost. Uh-oh. The Cornhuskers letting the Big 12 down.
- Malibu (host: Pepperdine). The top seeds won. Which means Mizzou lost. They gave Pepperdine a run for their money though losing 2-3.
- Norman (host: Oklahoma). The top seeds lost. Another Big 12 loss. Damn.
- Athens (host: Georgia). With Florida State ahead 18-0 in the 7th inning, the Athens Regional is in rain delay. I guess that answers the question we all had about whether or not the run-rule was in effect. Florida State is the home team so the answer appears to be: nope.
- Atlanta (host: Georgia Tech). They got the first game in but the second is postponed 'til Saturday.
- Charlottesville (host: Virginia). Ditto Atlanta.
- Chapel Hill (host: North Carolina). Top seeds won both games.
- Clemson (host: Clemson). Top seed won the first game. Clemson game delayed in first inning 'til Saturday.
- Fullerton (host: Cal State Fullerton). Top seeds won.
- Lexington (host: Kentucky). The top seed (Kentucky) lost. The other game went 16 innings before Notre Dame finally fell (5-4).
- Oxford (host: Ole Miss). The top seed won, the second lost.
- Tuscaloosa (host: Alabama). The top seeds won.
Several tournaments are in rain delay. Wow. The Big 12 is 3-3 on the day with one game pending due to weather.
