'Haven't had much to say lately. So, I decided to go looking through the photos I've been taking over the last month or so. First off, the 4th of July. I went out to Bastrop to watch the fireworks display with Jennie and Mom...like I do most years. Eddie joined us this year and we had a good time. The music was nice. The weather almost cooperated. Meaning, it wasn't as hot as it could've been and we had a nice clear sky. I took my camera and ended up with some pretty good shots. These are some of my favorites:

Those first two are a bit peculiar, eh? But, kinda cool. I rather like the purple and green ones best.
I'll try to post some photos from my quick jaunt to New Mexico soon.

Another sad day in history.

'Had a good time tonight. At almost the very last minute, I saw that there was gonna be a fun show at the Cactus Cafe this evening. At least it sounded like it would be fun. And, the cover was only 5 bucks! I gave Diane a call and she was game. So, off we went. What did we see? The Indie Chick Firecracker Fest. Or some such. The line-up? One great act after another (in performance order): Abi Tapia, Jenny Reynolds, Sarah Sharp, BettySoo, and Elizabeth McQueen. I'd seen Jenny perform a few times. The first time was at a Rouse House concert. She always puts on a good show. I heard Sarah on KUT (I think) about a year ago and really liked her quirky style so I'd bought her CD. But, I'd never seen her in person. I'd heard that Elizabeth was the new "girl" singer for Asleep at the Wheel but knew nothing more about her music. And, I'd never heard of Abi or BettySoo. I gotta say, all five women (along with the back-up musicians supporting Jenny, Sarah, and Elizabeth) were great. I bought a CD from each of the performers new to me (I already had Jenny's and Sarah's CDs) and heartily encourage anyone out there reading this to take in a show put on by any of these ladies. And, while there, pick up a CD. And, if you can't make a show, order a CD. You will not be disappointed. Now, can someone tell me why BettySoo sounds so familiar? Her voice reminds me of someone but I just can't quite figure it out.

The Tour de France is on again! Lance finished the first time trial 2 seconds behind the leader. They were almost a minute faster than everyone else. Go to the official page if you want to follow the action online. Go, Lance!

From today's Campus Watch crime report:
Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, 3 counts (105 West 21st Street)
Two UT students and an orientation student were found running back and forth across
the roadway. The students stated they were attempting to see how fast they could
run based on the radar speed fixture erected to advise motor-vehicle drivers of their
speed. All three students were found to be under the age of 21 and had consumed
alcoholic beverages. The students stated they received the alcohol at a party.
Occurred on 7-1-05 at 4:00 AM.
Heh heh. I wonder if they were successful in getting the machine to "read" their running speeds. Too funny.
. . . .
And, for those of you that don't pay attention to my baseball page (who are you people and what's the matter with you???), a pointer to some photos of the tower lit up to celebrate the baseball team's 2005 National Championship. I'm not sure which is my favorite but I rather like this one:

The Longhorn baseball team won its 6th National Championship yesterday afternoon in fine fashion. Prompting this entry in today's Campus Watch crime report:
Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (Disch-Falk Field, 1300 East Martin Luther
King Blvd.)
Six UT students were found climbing over the south fence to the baseball stadium in
an effort to hang a congratulatory banner for the National Champion UT Baseball Team.
Many of the students were found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. One of the
students who had consumed alcoholic beverages was found to be under the age of 21.
Occurred on 6-26-05 at 6:00 PM.
Kids, you gotta learn when and where it's appropriate to be hanging congratulatory banners! Heh heh.

From today's Campus Watch crime report:
Disorderly Conduct (Union Building, #4 West Mall)
Two unidentified male subjects ran through the 1st floor recreation room in a manner
intended to draw attention from the three staff members in the area. The two subjects
were reported as saying nothing but did "giggle" while they ran. The two subjects
were described as white male subjects in their 20s. One subject was 5'8" tall,
approximately 140 pounds with brown hair. The other subject was 5'10" tall, 170
pounds with brown hair. Both subjects were last seen wearing nothing. Occurred on
6-20-05 at 11:15 PM.
Hmmmm...streaking through the Union. Tsk tsk tsk.

Cyrus, at the ripe old age of 11, came into my office a couple of minutes ago with the following request:
"Joey, would you be a doll and let me into my dad's office?"
I laughed and let him in. Naturally. How could I possibly resist such a request? What a card.

I walked out of my building after work this evening and was startled to see this goofy fella:

'Made me laugh. The squirrel was just sitting back munching away at that nut. Or maybe it was an acorn. It looked like he'd dug up his prize and then settled in comfortably on top of the stuff he'd dug up. I moved a bit to the right (trying to get a better shot of the way he was sitting):

That's not quite what I was shooting for. But, the next time I moved, he darted up a tree. 'Guess he thought I might be trying to figure out how best to nab his dinner and he wanted none of it!

A two part article about the ex-professor that shot at our building in April and May appeared in the Daily Texan last week: part 1 and part 2. It's a sad story.
